How to String a Mid Pocket

A mid pocket is the Swiss army knife of lacrosse pockets that can be used by nearly anyone on the field. Its balance of power, accuracy, and control makes this pocket a weapon for anyone looking to become a high-caliber lacrosse player.

What is a Mid Pocket?

A mid pocket is a type of lacrosse pocket positioned in the middle of the lacrosse head. A mid pocket is created by tying the first holes of mesh down tight and then bunching up the other holes of mesh in the middle of the lacrosse head.

Mid pockets allow the ball to sit in the middle of your lacrosse head which provides a strong balance between power and accuracy. Similar to a low pocket, a mid pocket has a channel but it is slightly wider making it slightly less accurate. However, because the channel is wider, the ball can fly out of the lacrosse stick faster than a low pocket.

A mid pocket is the perfect pocket to use if you are looking to pick up a stick and play. Once you have gotten a feel for the mid pocket, it is extremely easy to use. Consistent practice with a mid pocket can turn you into an elite player anywhere on the field.

What Positions Use a Mid Pocket?

Mid pockets are used everywhere on the field, but midfielders and attackmen who feed and shoot would be most likely to use this pocket. The mid pocket’s balance between accuracy and power makes it an offensive threat.

Customize Your Pocket to Your Preference

Once you have completed your mid-pocket, you must break it in. Breaking in your pocket makes all the mesh and strings stretch out to form your final product. There are multiple ways to shape your lacrosse pocket.

First, you can use a baseball bat to pound out the middle of your pocket. You can also wet the mesh and string and use a lacrosse ball to pound out the pocket. Once you have broken in the mesh, throw and shoot around to see if you like your mid pocket.

Once you have broken your mid pocket in, you are good to go! Be sure to practice until you are comfortable with your new stick.
